Mountainfilm Returns to Hakuba

Mountainfilm on Tour brings a selection of culturally rich, adventure-packed and inspiring documentary films curated from the Mountainfilm Festival held every Memorial Day weekend in Telluride, Colorado. The tour will soon visit Hakuba at the Able Hakuba Goryu Ski Resort on September 22 with films that explore themes connected to Mountainfilm’s mission of using the power of film, art and ideas to inspire audiences to create a better world. This year’s theme is Equity, where many of the films will deal with issues of diversity, race, gender and representation against an adventure sports backdrop.

A Mountainfilm presenter will guide the audience through the program providing insight on the films, filmmakers and subjects. We will also hear from some athletes showcased in the films and local non-profit organizations like Protect Our Winters about the challenges and opportunities surrounding climate change and the political landscape. 

Weather-permitting, the show kicks off at 5:30pm outdoors on the Able Goryu ski slopes. An inside venue exists if it’s raining. 

The festival will begin with excellent live music from local band Swell. The films will begin at sunset at 6:30pm. 

Food trucks will provide all of your eating and drinking needs and will be a zero single-use plastic festival. Advanced tickets for Mountainfilm on Tour in Hakuba are on sale at the Hakuba Taproom, Able Hakuba Goryu Ski Resort for ¥1,300, or can be purchased online at Ticket Pia (チケットぴあ) for ¥1,500. Tickets will also be available on the day of the event at the door for ¥1,800 per adult and free for children 12 and under.
