The Peacekeeers (Shapeshifter) boys head to Minakami to put on a bigger show for the Gunma crowd. Enjoy skiing at one of the local Minakami resorts or spend the day in Yuzawa or Naeba before coming down for the show. Lots of great hot springs in the area as well. THE PEACEKEEPERS (NZ) Nozawa Onsen - Jan. 19 & Minakami - Jan. 26
Shapeshifter side-project, The Peacekeepers (DJ Sambora and MC P-Digsss) has been ripping it up overseas with their original dubstep productions and heavy soul/drum and bass, Sambora mixing with the unmistakable vocals of P.Digsss, the voice of Shapeshifter, and one of NZ's all-time top MCs. He joined Shapeshifter in 2003, has recorded with Fat Freddy's Drop, Salmonella Dub and many others while touring New Zealand, Australia, Asia & Europe. P.Digsss is also front man for Sunshine Sound System. Samboro (Keyboards, guitar, percussion for Shapeshifter), has played alongside some of New Zealands greats Tiki Taane, The Upbeats, Sate of Mind and Bulletproof.

Mountain Mocha Kilimanjaro. Bit of a tongue-twister, yeah? But be assured, there is nothing complicated about their super heavyweight funk. Combining the rawest and deepest soulful groove that would spark up anyone’s dancing shoes and the furious energy of rock and roll, and laying it all down in the classiest of funk manners, these gentlemen have been creating a storm around the world with their fresh new take on how to make people dance. Playing around relentlessly across clubs of all sizes in Japan, as well as rocking a packed house at Fuji Rock Festival 3 times (2008, 2010, 2012) and countless festivals around the country, they have built a reputation as one of the finest funk units kicking it today. Signed to the prestigious P-Vine label in Japan, they’ve also been released through the highly regarded Jazzman label, as well as a release in Australia through Instrumental Recordings. Their last overseas tour in Australia saw them become crowd favorites at renowned festivals such as Woodford Folk, Peats Ridge, Sydney Festival, Mona Foma and selling out the legenday Basement along with sideshows with international stars like Amp Fiddler and Black Joe Lewis and The Honeybears. These young heavyweight groove merchants are well on their way to taking on the world. And your soul.
疾走するインストゥルメンタル・バンド。時代のマナーとカルチャーへの敬意を貫きながらも、既成に一切執着しない超攻撃型6ピース。国内外のクラブシーンから野外フェスまで出演を続ける全方位型パフォーマンスで、へヴィーウェイト・ファンクと評される。Authentic Black Musicを基調とした大胆緻密な楽曲アプローチは、まさに黒人音楽を全年代的に貫く"Funk"を体現しており、インスト・ファンクの新たなディレクションとなっている。
[Biography]
2003年頃結成、2007年より現在の6人編成となる。2008年、1stアルバム『Mountain MochaKilimanjaro』をリリース。発売直後に話題となり、FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL’08に異例の緊急出演。以来、FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL(3度出演)をはじめ、ARABAKI ROCK FESTIVALや朝霧JAM、Greenroom Festival、Sunset Liveなど全国各地の野外フェスの常連として出演を続ける。2010年、2ndアルバム『UHURU PEAK』発売。またUKの名門レーベル・JAZZMANから日本人として初めて音源をリリース。さらに毎年恒例となるオーストラリアツアーをスタートさせるなど、ストイックな音楽性が海外での高い評価を獲得している。2011年、6ヶ月連続7インチアナログシングルリリース。2012年、カバーアルバム『温故知新』、3rdアルバム『Perfect Times』をリリース。全国各地のクラブシーンからライブハウス、野外フェスに至るまで幅広いパフォーマンスを続けている。
ABDOU BAYE FALL & THE REVOLUTION (AFRICA) Hakuba - Mar. 2
Born in Senegal, Abdou Baye Fall is a professional dancer and Djimbe performer and instructor. He joined a prestigious ballet group when he was 16 and was the youngest dancer in the company, then made his first international performance. After developing his career as a dancer and percussionist, he joined the Senegal national ballet and worked there as a leading dancer and choreographer before teaching traditional West African dance and music internationally. In 2002 he visited Japan to perform at the World Cup and now calls Japan home. He regularly gives workshops with artists such as Teruma Aoyama (EXILE), Ayumi Hamazaki and others, and performs with his group, Bayefall Revolution.

ALLY from ALLY BAND (JAPAN) Nozawa Onsen - Jan. 19
Ally learned to play the great highland bagpipes in Scotland about 8 years ago then came back to Japan to form ALLY BAND featuring her on the bagpipes, guitar, drums and bass.The band's sound is more rock than traditional folk; they released their first full album "WASTELAND" in March 2012 with Irish folk label UNCLEOWEN music.
ARISA SAFU (JAPAN) Hakuba - Mar. 2
Arisa Safu grew up in a unique environment always listening to live music. Her first favorite song was Highway Star by Deep Purple, followed by the music of Neil Young, Bonnie Raitt, and the Allman Brothers. At 17, she joined the band Super Goooooood as a sax player. In 2007, her band in Montreal became the national champions in the Global Battle of the Bands, and became one of the top 15 bands in the world that year. In 2009, she started formed Arisa Safu and the Rovers, the band awarded 2nd Best New Band in Japan that year and she was won Best Artist and Best Vocalist awards. In 2010, she played the Fuji Rock Festival. In 2011, they were in the national finals of Emergenza. Now, Arisa has gone solo – bluesier, earthier, more country and more rock ‘n roll. She has her own radio show on FM Setagaya, “Arisa’s Smilin’ Thursday”, and makes a monthly appearance on Radio Shonan’s “Groove E Motion”. A new mini-album is to be released at the beginning of year 2013.
THE DIRTY Ts (VARIOUS) Nozawa Onsen - Jan. 12
The Dirty T's are an international three piece rock band based in Tokyo. Comprising Wotlie (guitar/vox), Jonny Sexdrive (drums) and T-Bone (bass), the trio have been rocking Tokyo and the provinces since 2007. Digda will make their first appearance at Snow Splash, bringing their new-style rebel music, their groove and soul, they say has roots in 1970s funk music.
栃木県の那須を本拠地として、関東を中心に活動するRoots Jam Band “digda”
Drumの“SKM”を中心として結成され、毎回編成が変わる多彩なバンド。PsychedelicJam、民族Trance、エレクトロニカ、ダブ、テクノ、ブルース、ファンク、シューゲイザー…あらゆるジャンルの音楽に影響され、多様な新しいスタイルのダンス･ミュージックを生み出している。
ALEISTER KELMAN (U.K.) Nozawa Onsen - Jan. 12
Aleister Kelman is a singer-songwriter living in Tokyo. Born in Cambridge UK in the mid 80s he was raised on a household diet of 60s reggae, 70s rock and Mississippi blues and taught how to play Leonard Cohen songs on the guitar by his mother, aged 14.
His early 2os were spent in London where he was exposed to bossa nova, calypso, various styles of jazz and electronic music. The resulting sound is an sunshine mix made from catchy melodies and finger clicking rhythms, strung together by an optimistic sense of songwriting.
Aleister has performed at a number of UK festivals, made radio appearances and his song Lonely Road is out on the Big Chill Label. Web: http://aleisterkelman.com
