Island Beat: Kouri Island Photo Essay
Kouri Island, Okinawa
沖縄 古宇利島
Photo Essay by John Burgreen
Kouri Island is in the north of Okinawa's main island. The coral island's green sugar cane fields and blue sea have made it a favorite backdrop for television. It's also easily accessible via the 1.96 km. Kouri Bridge that opened in 2005 and is the longest toll-free bridge in Japan. Visitors can search for secret secluded beaches, enjoy crystal clear water and find friendly locals extending the famous Okinawa spirit.
