Tamago Oziya (Egg & Rice Soup)

Tamago Oziya (Egg & Rice Soup)

Backpackers and cyclists often depend on frozen and dried food because they are light weight. The quality isn’t too bad, but not something you want to eat every day (and they are expensive). Trail Recipes will introduce some quick and easy meal ideas with ingredients you can get at any supermarket in Japan.

This is what I have for breakfast everyday when I camp. (1) Add two packs of egg soup stock, and double the instructed amount of water. Put it over the fire until it is boiled. Then add one pack of rice. (2) Cook until rice is soft. Add salt as needed and some dried red pepper and it is done! Hot sesame oil is also good. If you had a few too many beers around the campfire, Tamago Oziya is good for a hangover in the morning as well. People who regularly eat oatmeal may also enjoy this as a substitute.
